Walking Through the Psalms
“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.” – Psalm 63:1 (NLT)

“Shopping or Just Browsing?”
Do you browse or do you shop? Many people, when they go into a store, aren’t actually looking for anything in particular. They wander through stores until something catches their fancy, and then they buy it. How many times have you heard someone say, “I went shopping, but I didn’t find anything I liked.” Usually, that’s because we don’t know what we’re looking for.
It’s the same with God. I think the biggest reason people don’t search for God is that they don’t know that He is what they’re looking for. They know they need SOMETHING. So, they browse. They walk through life trying on a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but they always end up frustrated. Nothing ever really fits or seems to be quite what they’re looking for. So they keep browsing. But for those who have found God, REALLY found Him, they can’t get enough of Him. They keep on seeking Him day after day after day.
That’s what David is getting at in this Psalm. He’s found God. He’s discovered that it’s the Presence of God that meets the deepest needs of his life. He’s found that it’s the Love of God that makes him feel valued and treasured. He’s learned that it’s the Strength of God that enables him to be able to endure. He’s learned that God is the Only One who can heal him, comfort him, and restore him. So he pursues God daily, passionately, and continuously.
I want to encourage you today to shop, not browse. Don’t just walk through life day after day expecting that somehow God in all His Fullness is going to fall off a shelf and drop into your lap. Earnestly seek God. HE is what you’re looking for. Need comfort? Seek Him. Need peace? Seek Him. Need healing, or wholeness, or a sense of purpose in your life? Seek Him. Are you feeling as if there’s just something missing? Seek Him. God doesn’t force Himself upon any of us. But He wondrously reveals Himself to those who really want to know Him. Years ago, God showed me that I could have as much of Him as I desired, but I would have no more of Him than I pursued. Out of that understanding, I found my “Life Verse.” It’s Jeremiah 29:13. It says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (NIV). Browse, and you may miss Him. Shop, and you will find exactly what you’re looking for! That’s God’s Word for you today.
