Walking Through the Psalms
“He will listen to the prayers of the destitute, for he is never too busy to heed their requests. – Psalm 102:17 (TLB)

“You Have God’s Ear”
There was a really cool story some years ago that went viral on social media. At an Eat-N-Park restaurant in Belle Vernon, PA, a 91-year-old man came in for a meal. When Dylan, his server, came over to his booth to take his order, he noticed that the elderly gentleman was having trouble hearing him. Dylan got down on one knee, so he was eye-to-eye with the man. The man apologized for not being able to hear, but he had forgotten his hearing aids. He went on to explain that he had lost his hearing in the war. Dylan engaged him in conversation as he took his order. The man talked about his life and how he now had few friends to really talk to. He finally apologized for taking so much time, and Dylan left to put his order in.
When he brought the man’s food out, Dylan asked him if he could sit and visit with him since he was now on a break. The man was thrilled. Dylan listened attentively as the man talked about the war, about his injuries, about his family, and about his life. Dylan made the observation later that he could tell the man hadn’t had a conversation with another caring person in a long, long time. Their time was captured for social media by some other patrons and shared thousands of times. Dylan gave the man a gift he desperately needed. A listening ear and a caring heart.
God listens to YOU like that. In those times when you feel that no one wants to hear what you have to say. In those times when you think no one has time for you. In those times when you’re really lonely, really hurting, or really afraid. In those times when you’re overwhelmed and aren’t even sure you can find the words. And even though God has a lot of other things to tend to, and a few billion other people to take care of, He listens to YOU. At your most destitute moments, He listens the closest. He gets down on one knee so He can look in your eyes. He draws near to you to make sure that He doesn’t miss a single thing you’re saying. He has time for you. He’s never in too big a hurry to listen to your heart and hear your request. You have His full and undivided attention.
So pour out your heart to God today. Tell Him what’s bothering you. Tell Him what’s overwhelming you, what’s hurting you, or what’s troubling you. Tell Him about the wars you’ve been through and are still hurting from. Tell Him about the battles you’re fighting right now. You need to talk, and He has a desire to hear. And you can take your time. When it comes to you, God is always on His break. His is the ear you’re longing for. That’s God’s Word for you today.
