Walking Through the Psalms
“Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly when I call to you.” – Psalm 102:2(b) (NLT)
“Answer Quickly, Lord!”

I want to invite you to pray this prayer today. I believe it’s a prayer that many of you NEED to pray. This psalmist is modeling for us that it’s okay to be human with God. It’s okay to feel worn out by waiting and frustrated because it feels as if no progress is being made. So as the psalmist cries out to God, he slips in a word of urgency. “Quickly.”
He does not doubt that God hears his prayer. He does not doubt that God sees his need. He does not doubt that God is going to get around to answering his prayer. But he’s worn thin. His strength is ebbing, his faith is struggling, and his spirits are sinking. So, he asks God for something more. “Quickly.” He knows that God is sovereign, and he’s more than willing to surrender to that sovereignty. But he also knows that “you have not because you ask not.” So he asks. It’s the right every child of God has. It’s the right YOU have.
Some of you may really identify with the psalmist today. Maybe you’ve been growing tired and frustrated. Maybe you’ve found yourself growing weaker, your faith getting shakier, and your spirits getting lower. Listen very carefully to this: It’s okay to ask! You are a beloved child of God, and you have every right to ask God to move more quickly than He is. Confess to Him your frustration. Confess to Him your fatigue. Let God know you’re struggling to hold on.
God is sovereign. We don’t get to command Him. But He is also gracious. He responds to the desperate prayers of His Children. So open your heart to Him. Open your fear to Him. Open your hurt to Him. He is your Father, and you are His Precious Child. You have every right to plead with Him for what you need. So pray this prayer with me right now. “Answer me QUICKLY, Lord!”
I’m praying for you today. I’m praying that God will give you a sign that He has heard your prayer. I’m praying that God will give you an awareness of His Presence that will let you know that He is near. I’m praying that God will respond to your prayer and answer it fully and completely. And I’m praying that God will do so QUICKLY! That’s God’s Word for you today.
