Walking Through the Psalms

“A Great Love Story”
When Matt Grodsky met Laura Scheeler, he knew she was the woman he wanted to marry. He even declared in front of his classmates so the whole world would know. I’m not sure how many of them took him seriously. Probably not many. I imagine that even his own family just smiled at his promise of matrimony. After all, Matt and Laura were only 3 years old.
But twenty years later, on May 23, 2015, on a picnic date in front of the pre-school where he had made that promise, Matt got down on one knee and asked Laura to be his wife. His love for her had endured the years. It had survived the time spent in separate schools. It had persevered through the time when their only contact was through the Christmas cards their families sent each other. His love never wavered. His commitment was unshakable. He kept his promise and was faithful through it all. Now, after all those years, here they were. She said, “Yes!” and she finally was his. What a love story!
God loves you like that. The psalmist reminds us that God remembers His promises and that His love is faithful. His love remained steady through the times when you became lost from Him. His commitment to you never wavered when you sought other gods, flirted with other loves, or even forgot completely about Him. Ten years, twenty years, or seventy years, it makes no difference. He loves you as much to this day as the day He first laid eyes on you. He loves you in spite of where you’ve been, what you’ve done, or what has happened to you. God KEEPS His Promises. He promised to always be faithful. He promised to never forget you. He promised that His love would be EVERLASTING. And it is.
When God sent Jesus into the world, He was getting down on one knee and showing us that His Promise had endured through the centuries. “For God so loved the world He sent His one and only Son…” He had promised that love in the garden. And He never forgot it. He restated it over and over again through the patriarchs and the prophets. But He fulfilled that promise of love in Jesus. The only question that remains is, will you return that love? Matt waited 20 years for Laura. God’s waited since the beginning of time. The end of His love story is up to YOU! That’s God’s Word for you today.
