Walking Through the Psalms
“Sing a new song to the LORD! Let the whole earth sing to the LORD!” – Psalm 96:1 (NLT)
“What’s Your NEW Song?”

“What’s Your NEW Song?”
Did you ever hear the story about the older couple sitting on the porch together? The wife is thinking back about how they used to be so passionate about each other when they were young. She then sadly realizes that they have lost that spark and longs to get it back. She looks over at her husband and says, “You know, George, it’s been a long time since you’ve told me that you love me.” George doesn’t even look up from the newspaper he’s reading and says, “Gladys, I told you when we got married 55 years ago that I loved you. If I ever change my mind, I’ll let you know!”
We get like that sometimes, don’t we? And not just in our marriages. We get like that in our relationship with God. I remember when I was a kid that on some Sunday nights, we’d have a “testimony” time. People would spontaneously stand up and share a praise of what God had done in their lives. What was interesting was that there were some people who would say the exact same thing every time they stood up. It was almost as though God hadn’t done anything new in their lives for years.
When I read our verse today, it reminded me that we can’t let our love for God grow stale. We can’t lose sight of the fact that His faithfulness is shown to us DAILY and that His mercies are new EVERY MORNING. God didn’t stop blessing us, loving us, or showing His grace to us on the day we committed our lives to Him. His work has been CONSTANT. His blessings have come DAY AFTER DAY. God is always up to something NEW in our lives, therefore He deserves a fresh word of praise from us from time to time!
So, what is YOUR “new song” of praise? What NEW thing has God done for you recently? How has God shown up, intervened, or worked in your life in a way that has reminded you of His great love for you? Sing a NEW SONG to God today. Give Him a FRESH word of praise. Don’t let another day go by without telling the Lord how much you love Him and how thankful you are for His work in your life. What’s your New Song? That’s God’s Word for you today.
