Walking Through the Psalms
“It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High.” – Psalm 92:1 (NLT)
“Overwhelmed”
“It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High.” – Psalm 92:1 (NLT)
“Overwhelmed”
This morning, as I walked and prayed, I spent a lot of time just thanking God for who He is and all He’s done. I ended up spending MOST of prayer time giving thanks. I hadn’t planned it that way. It was just that once I got started, I realized how much there was to be thankful for.
As I prayed, “Thank you for watching over me,” I realized that God has ALWAYS watched over me. There were two different times that I almost drowned. Then there was the first time I ever rode a small motorbike and didn’t know how to stop it. I ended up flying down my grandparents’ lane and across a busy highway before I bailed off. If a car had been going by on the road, I would most likely have been killed. Then there was the time I was riding double on the handlebars of my friend’s bike, and he accidentally went off the curb. When we crashed, it threw me onto the street, and a car screeched to a stop just inches from my head. I hadn’t thought about any of those events in years. But this morning, I took time to thank God for His protection.
I also thanked God for never letting go of me. When I thought back to my teen years, I realized how my life could have easily gone in a whole different direction. I hung around a lot of bad influences through the years and could have made choices that would have taken my life down some pretty dark paths. But it seemed like time and time again, a good influence would show up in my life and pull me back toward God. I shudder when I think of how difficult my life could have been or who I could have become. So I spent some time today thanking God for His incredible faithfulness and loving me despite my failures. As I searched for a word to describe how grateful I was for His Grace, I finally just said, “I am overwhelmed by you.”
The psalmist reminds us today that, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord.” It was certainly good for me today. I discovered after spending a good bit of time expressing my thanks to God that I felt peaceful. I felt loved. And I realized just how much I truly do have to be thankful for. How about YOU? What do you have to be thankful for? I would encourage you to take a walk with God today and tell Him how grateful you are for all He’s done. Take a few moments to remember and I’ll bet that you, too, will end up at that same word I did. Overwhelmed. That’s God’s Word for you today.
