Walking Through the Psalms

“Your Story Is Not Over”
A man shared a story on Facebook a few years ago that blew my mind. He ran into a man whom he hadn’t seen in years, and they began to talk. The man told him how he had lost his job during the housing crash in 2006. He ended up losing his own house as a result. To add insult to injury, he came home one day, and his wife had moved out. He lived in his car for seven months. Despair set in, and the man finally decided he couldn’t take it anymore.
He drove to a church next to the cemetery where his parents were buried and took out a gun to end his life. He told God, “I’ll be seeing you soon.” But before he could pull the trigger, his phone rang. He had $2 of credit left on his phone. He answered it. “Hey man, this is Dan! How are you?” the man at the other end of the line asked. Dan was a friend he hadn’t talked to in over 10 years. He opened up to Dan about what was going on. Dan told him to come to his house so they could talk. The man told Dan he didn’t have much gas, but he would try to make it. He ran out of gas as he pulled into Dan’s driveway!
Dan consoled his friend, invited him to move in with him, and hired him to help him remodel his house. He got back on his feet and is now a supervisor for a home-building company. When this man was telling my buddy his story, he said, “Don’t tell me there’s no God! He was in that phone call!” They both simply stood there crying uncontrollably at God’s goodness.
Hope. Could YOU use some today? God knows your desperate need as well as the man in my story. God saw him there beside that church, sitting in his car. And He sees you, too. He knows the overwhelming circumstances of your life. He knows how broken your heart is, how confused your mind is, and how terribly alone you feel. But you are NOT alone. God is reaching out to you today with His lifeline of hope for you. He has friends ready to help you that are as near as your next phone call. He has a job He’s ready to supply you with that’s as close as your next submitted resume. God can help you pick up the pieces and begin again. He is a Redeemer. He is a Restorer. He is a Rebuilder.
Don’t put a period in the middle of the sentence of your life when God has simply put a comma there. Your story is not over. God sees your tears and hears your prayer. Wherever you are today and whatever you are going through, God is nearer than you think. David reminds us that God is the hope of EVERYONE in the world, no matter how desperate our situation. That means YOU. So cry out to Him. Let God wrap His arms of comfort and strength around you. Let Him draw near to you in miraculous ways that take your breath away. Don’t quit. Don’t give up. Don’t throw in the towel. This is YOUR phone call. God, your Hope, is on the line! That’s God’s Word for you today.
