Walking Through the Psalms
“Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your glory shine over all the earth.” – Psalm 57:11 (NLT)
“Go Be God’s Glory!”
“Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your glory shine over all the earth.” – Psalm 57:11 (NLT)
“Go Be God’s Glory!”
In the Old Testament, whenever the Presence of God came down to visit His people, it was described as His “glory.” It was a mysterious, powerful radiance of God. Once, when Moses came down from visiting with God, he actually glowed with that radiance! Then Jesus came, and the glory of God became a Person! “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory…” (John 1:14).
Jesus brought this mysterious “glory” of God right to where people were. He was the living, breathing Presence of God wherever He went. People were HEALED in that presence. People were INSPIRED in that presence. People were CHANGED in that presence. The Glory of God walked the streets of men. Then, as Jesus prepared to go back to the Father, He said something startling. “As God the Father has sent me, I am sending YOU.” Like those relay runners running with the lamp of the Eternal Flame for the kickoff of the Olympics, Jesus handed off that lamp to us. Now, everywhere we go, WE get to be the illumination of the Presence of God. We get to be His Glory!
David’s declaration here is one of praise and adoration. He’s saying that God is WORTHY of His Glory being seen everywhere. And it is. But that is more than just a prayer or statement of praise for us. It’s an OPPORTUNITY! As followers of Christ, we get the incredible privilege of reflecting the glory of God wherever we go. We get to make the mysterious God of the Ages KNOWN. At work today, you can be a Healer, Counselor, Encourager, and Friend. At home today, you can be His Peace, His Comfort, His Gentleness, and His Love. Your smile can bring light to the world of a total stranger. Your acts of kindness can be the breeze of God’s Spirit to a checkout clerk, a tired waitress, or a neighbor in need. Wherever Jesus went, people WANTED to be around Him. That’s the way it’s supposed to be with us.
Let’s fulfill David’s Psalm today. Though we can’t make the glory of God shine over ALL the earth, we can let it shine in our little corner of the world. And if each one of us did that, I have a feeling this dark world would suddenly get a whole lot brighter. Go be the living, breathing Presence of God today. Let the Word become flesh through YOU. Go be His Glory! That’s God’s Word for you today.
