Walking Through the Psalms
“I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.” – Psalm 57:2 (NLT)
“God Is Bigger!”

“God Is Bigger!”
Have you ever doubted yourself? I sure have. And what’s funny is how quickly those feelings of doubt can come! You could have several straight victories, but then, after a crushing defeat, it can feel like all those victories mean nothing, and you’re shaken to the core. Sometimes those feelings of self-doubt come even when you’ve had major triumphs in your life, things you’re famous for. But that fame seems to fade quickly when all the cheers you used to get are replaced by people calling for your head. That self-doubt can overwhelm you, even when you remember a time when you were SURE you were called by God to do what you’re doing. You might even feel as if you must have misheard the voice of God.
That’s the dark cave of self-doubt that David was living in. At one time, he strutted in front of his armies, having won victory after victory. David was the one who famously and courageously took the battlefield against the giant Goliath and defeated him with just a stone and a sling. David was the one whom people cheered for, believed in, and sang about. But now David questioned his ability, questioned his leadership, and questioned his calling. So he cried out to God. What a great place to go! When we’ve lost faith in ourselves, let’s reclaim our faith in God!
I love how David refers to the Lord here as “God Most High” (Elohim-Elyon). He is proclaiming that God is BIGGER. God is bigger than his fears. God is bigger than his detractors. God is bigger than his dilemma. God is bigger than the king who is chasing him. God is bigger than the bleak future he is facing. David reminds himself in this passage that the God who called him is FAITHFUL. God WILL fulfill the promises that He has made. He WILL fulfill the purposes for which He called David. David can have all the doubts about himself that he wants, but there can be NO DOUBT about God! He is BIGGER!
Maybe that’s a truth YOU need to claim today. Maybe you’ve had a recent setback or two. Maybe you’ve failed, fallen short, or dropped the ball. Maybe you’ve found life harder, ministry harder, or serving harder than it’s ever been before. Maybe, even if you’ve had lots of past success, you're doubting yourself today. Perhaps it’s time to cry out to Elohim-Elyon for yourself. Let go of the confidence you’ve had in yourself and put that confidence in the God who is with you. If God has called you to it, then He will see you THROUGH it! The cave was not the end of the line for David. And the cave will not be the end of the line for you. God Most High is greater than your fears, greater than your failures, and greater than your foes. He is FAITHFUL, and He will fulfill His promises to you and His purposes for you. Set your jaw, square your shoulders, and proclaim today, “God is BIGGER!” That’s God’s Word for you today.
